2012… fast approaching.

there has been a stirring in my brain… a stirring to revive ramblintadpole in the new year. I’ve been seeing more and more blogs where someone commits to creating something everyday for a year… that is a terrifying thought… I don’t do ANYTHING everyday for a year…

But maybe 2012 is the year that all changes. I’m not sure what “that thing” that i create everyday will be… but I’m going to give it some thought.

I’d say tune in… but it’s best not to hold your breath.

Finally getting to the point where what I’ve been working on since graduation is coming to fruition and thus is no longer a secret.

One of my packages for Gilly Hicks at Abercrombie has been in stores for two weeks and I’ve heard its doing well. I’ll try to post screen shots of work that I like as they hit stores. This package was for valentines day. It was one of the first of many illustration projects I’ve been working on. I’m really pleased with how it turned out.

With the Vancouver Olympics in full swing I feel safe to talk about one of the other big projects I worked on. In September and October I was given the opportunity to design the packaging guidelines for all Coca Cola licensed merchandise for the Olympic games. My sample haven’t come in yet so heres some stuff I found doing a Google search. I didn’t design these actually but I was responsible for creating the templates that all the packaging was based on. types of packaging included the official olympic trading pin cards, boxes and hang tags. It was a really fun project with a lot of late nights.

Weekend reunion

2 monthes in Ohio have brought with them much change. This weekend was a celebration of what hasn’t changed. Emily and Kwi came a callin from their various homes and we had us some adventures. About an hour out of columbus we treked to find old man cave. It’s a series of waterfall that freeze into amazing formations in the winter weather.

Today i said goodbye to my handsome cat of 14 years. He was no ordinary cat… he ruled my home with an iron claw and he will be missed.

So I got a new job. in Ohio… yep thats right… Ohio.

I’ll be working for Abercrombie and Fitch. I’ll be saying goodbye to my home state and good buddies sometime in mid november. crazy times!

Post Grad goings on

Whew. busy busy couple of weeks just past. Heres the short of it. So i graduated from Portfolio Center. AWESOME! and by now so has most of my quarter. Some really strong work all the way down the line. I was impressed by every single book I saw. In anticipation for the unemployment that is so typical in the economy I started looking for freelance work and I found some great stuff. I’ll post more when I can but I’ve been doing some work with Coca-cola for the upcoming Vancouver Olympics. As soon as i can talk about it I’ll make a more thorough post. I’ve also been doing some design strategy for the United Way which has been amazing. Both companies are absolutely huge and it’s been a real learning experience. Each company functions in totally different ways with totally different goals. all in all a great experience. I also managed to find full time employment at Creative Marketing Associates as a designer. CMA, for the most part, designs and merchandises licensed apparel for mega brands like HBO, Harry Potter, Busch Gardens, Coca Cola, Carnival Cruise Lines, Las Vegas… etc. I will post any of the work that i do that gets produced. Confidentiality is a total bummer because half the fun of doing the work is sharing it. so now we get to one of the smaller projects i had the privileged of working on which was the brand language for CJ Isaac Photography. CJ is a talent up and coming photographer who is currently attending Portfolio Center. We met in school and remain good friends and I’m continuously impressed by the work she puts out. CJ’s work is mysterious but also optimistic. A celebration of color and texture.

we wanted a logo to reflect Cj’s distinct style. Heres what we came up with.

Cj has begun working on further applications of the brand. I’ll post them as they come.

4 days and feeling breeze pick up

I feel like today might be that point in a roller coaster where you have just reached the top of the HUGE hill and you are looking over the drop, sort of jerkily being lowered as you wait for the back cars to click click click into position. Your way up high and the view is clear for miles… but you can do nothing but be consumed by anticipation… a deadly mix of excitement, bone chilling fear and the sudden gastronomic revenge of the chili dog you ate just before you boarded the train. The question is… will I cling to the safety bar, close my eyes and pray for it all to end quickly or will I throw my hands in the air and take the screaming choatic insanity for all its worth?

We shall see

still 5 days…though a lot less of the 5th remains

5 days (not my work)

I’ll be really excited to see where this blog goes after sign off. Most of the ramblin’ has been about school or my work… what will i have to talk about when this is all said and done. Heres hoping this site is filled with strange, (international would be nice too) adventures. Not to get ahead of myself but here are some of the plans in the near future. the big project is the website. Got to get that up as fast as i can. I’m hoping once the work is finished the site should piece together nicely. I’ve already planned it out and started working out the little fiddly bits.

Also phase two of the mystery project commences… well more like unexpected part two that I’m really excited about. and in mid august I’ll finally be able to reveal what the mystery project is. Which will be a HUGELY happy day.

anyways… back to day five. Nothing “out of this world” to show today. so instead I’ll post the following. they are cool faux retro book covers of famous films novelized. I LOVE the simple graphic approach and technique. They achieved that authentic, full bodied feel that so many student vector based artists just can’t seem to land. I love the besier curve like anyone else… but it’s just not the same.
